SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: SCONE CASH PLAYERS – AS THE SCREW TURNS

Scone Cash Players As The Screw Turns Flamingo Time

by Samantha Andujar

Bold and spirited organist Adam Scone has come back with another beautifully-crafted funk and soul jazz album which speaks volumes about his work as a musician. With five albums already under his belt, Adam Scone, also known as Scone Cash Players, has delivered some of the best modern funk and Jazz we have heard in recent years.

The album is a treat in itself, with its coy and effortless jazzy grooves, amazing use of vocals, and overall the immensely talented organ genius organist Adam Scone. With his quick tonal movements and ability to take us to different places musically, Scone Cash Players are showing they have what it takes to stand with the late greats of the soul and funk scene.

While this album may seem to hit the sweet spot for those that appreciate a trip down memory lane, with its old school jazz flavourit brings to the table, it isn’t for the non-traditional jazz lover. Knowing this, it can also stand on its own two feet as a work of art because of the amount of high-level craftsmanship here, and can be appreciated for this and this alone. Nothing but pure instrumental talent exudes from As The Screw Turns. I hope other music lovers will step out of the current music scene to check out this little gem as it’s something that shouldn’t be turned away because of its style.
